For Immediate Release
Georgia Perimeter College faculty, staff and students can see a special performance of “Madame Butterfly” by the Peach State Opera on Jan. 11. The heart-wrenching story of Puccini’s beautiful geisha girl and her American naval lieutenant never grows old. The unwavering love of the young Japanese bride as she waits for the return of her husband, the clash of cultures and faiths, and the ultimate betrayal and tragic ending inspires some of opera’s most powerful and beautiful music.
The show is 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11 at Cole Auditorium, GPC Clarkston Campus. The campus is located at 555 North Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston. Log on to http://www.xorbia.com/e/pso/011113 to buy tickets. GPC faculty, staff, students and alumni tickets are $5 with GPC ID; tickets for student at other schools are $10. General admission tickets are $22.
Tamara Watson Harper, who taught opera at GPC and has held faculty positions at Angelo State University, Georgia Southern University and Reinhardt University, directs the production of “Madame Butterfly” and also sings the role of Butterfly. Hughes’ assistant is Asha Akram, a voice student at GPC Clarkston.
The artistic director, Evelyn Hughes, teaches voice two days a week at Georgia Perimeter. Visit www.peachstateopera.org for more information.
