Money is often a pressing concern for college students—especially at the start of a new academic semester. Due dates for tuition and fee payments sometimes do not coincide with the date financial aid arrives, leaving students in a financial quandary.
Georgia Perimeter College is now offering Nelnet Business Solutions as a financial option for students caught between payments for school.
The automatic payment plan, which requires students to provide a down payment of their total tuition and student fee bills, allows students to spread out their payments without incurring interest. A $50 sign-up fee per semester is required.
Enrolling in the Nelnet program can help students who want to register for classes, but whose financial aid awards have yet to post to their student accounts. It can also help students who don’t have financial aid, but need help stretching out tuition and fee payments over more than one month.
“One of the most common requests we have always gotten is for a payment plan to help students to bridge the gaps in financing their education. The third-party solution provided through Nelnet is a win-win for students and the college,” said Richard Beaubien, GPC director of admissions and recruitment.
“The process is simple and straightforward. No complicated applications or credit checks are involved,” Beaubien said. “With this funding solution through Nelnet, our students can potentially avoid the debt load brought on by other funding solutions.”
The program is offered by several other University System of Georgia institutions as well. Students must be in good financial standing with GPC and have no outstanding fees in order to qualify, but there is no credit check. Payments for a student’s bill are automatically deducted from his or her checking or credit card the fifth of each month until paid.
