Georgia Perimeter College’s Dunwoody Campus continues the Sarah Larson Lecture Series in the Humanities with the “S Factor,” Sara Karrholm, a Swedish speaker and Fulbright scholar will talk about the Scandinavian crime fiction of Steig Larsson. Karrholm’s lecture will begin at 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 19, in the C Building Auditorium on the Dunwoody Campus.
Karrholm is spending spring of 2012 at Harvard University as the visiting Fulbright Hildeman Scholar. While she is in Atlanta, she will be conducting guest lectures exploring the works of popular author Stieg Larsson and his crime fiction trilogy featuring the mercurial heroine Lisbeth Salander.
Karrholm’s research on popular fiction is mainly from a cultural studies perspective, focusing on gender issues as well as on the media and how literary genres work in a larger context than the merely textual.
The Sarah Larson Lecture Series in the Humanities on the Dunwoody Campus is in honor of Sarah Larson, a professor emerita at GPC who served for many years as the chair of the Humanities Department but is now retired.
“She has remained very active in keeping our students connected to great writers and speakers,” said Louise McKinney, assistant professor of English, Dunwoody Campus. “We decided to name the lecture series after her as we honor her contributions to the college.”
All presentations in The Sarah Larson Lecture Series in the Humanities will be held on GPC’s Dunwoody Campus, located at 2101 Womack Road, Dunwoody, Ga. 30338. Each presentation will be followed by a lively question-and-answer period (and book signing in some cases). The series is free and open to the community.
