Interpreter Training Society of Georgia Perimeter College’s Sign Language Interpreting Program
ARTICLE I
The Name of this organization shall the Interpreter Training Society
ARTICLE II
The purpose of this organization shall be to:
ARTICLE III
Section 1. Membership is restricted to currently enrolled students of Georgia Perimeter College.
Section 2 Active Member: members in good standing are members who have paid current dues and are an undergraduate students enrolled in Georgia Perimeter College Sign Language Interpreting Program A. Active members shall have all privileges of membership, including full voting rights
Section 4 Pre-program Member: students enrolled at Georgia Perimeter College with Sign Language Interpreting Program as their elected program of study, but are but currently in the Georgia Perimeter College Sign Language Interpreting Program. A. Pre-program members shall have all the privileges of membership, except the right to hold an office.
ARTICLE IV
Section 1. The officers of the Interpreter Training Society shall be:
President (must be a Second Year Student)
Job Qualifications: Must be a currently enrolled student at GPC Must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 Must have accumulated 16 credit hours at GPC
General Duties Attend all ITS/Executive board meetings. Attend all ICC/Executive board meetings Represent the Student Body at large. Serve as an active liaison between the student body and the administration. Become knowledgeable about the ITS By-Laws, campus resources and their locations, and college-wide policies. Actively participate in the establishment of ITS goals and in the planning and implementing of plans in support of the goals. Be prepared to assist the college/SLIP as an official college representative when called upon to do so.
Specific Duties for the First President. Serve as the Inter Club Council (ICC) Representative
a) Attends ICC meetings
Mentor and groom the First Year President Guide the First Year Vice President in an Ex Officio capacity Guide the First Year Vice President in planning, developing and executing the ITS/SLIP Pinning Ceremony
Vice President Second Year
Must be a currently enrolled student at GPC Must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 Must have accumulated 6 credit hours at GPC
General Duties Attend all ITS/Executive board meetings. Represent the Student Body at large. Serve as an active liaison between the student body and the administration. Develop and coordinate workshops for ITS, minimum of 2 annually. Preside over meetings in absence of the President. Second Year VP had seniority. Assist the President in the discharge of presidential duties. Assume duties of the President in absence or request of the President Become knowledgeable about the ITS By-Laws, campus resources and their locations, and college-wide policies. Serve as a good resource for the student body by remaining knowledgeable of ITS Events/Activities Actively participate in the establishment of ITS goals and in the planning and implementing of plans in support of the goals. Be prepared to assist the college/SLIP as an official college representative when called upon to do so.
Specific Duties for the Second Year Vice President. Serve as Chair Person for the Mentorship Committee
Vice President First Year
Must be a currently enrolled student at GPC Must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 Must have accumulated 6 credit hours at GPC
General Duties Attend all ITS/Executive board meetings. Represent the Student Body at large. Serve as an active liaison between the student body and the administration. Develop and coordinate workshops for ITS, minimum of 2 annually. Preside over meetings in absence of the President. Second Year VP had seniority. Secretary Second Year
Job Qualifications: Must be a currently enrolled student at GPC Must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 Must have accumulated 6 credit hours at GPC
General Duties Attend all ITS/Executive board meetings. Represent the Student Body at large. Serve as an active liaison between the student body and the administration. Record the Minutes of ever Meeting of the Interpreter Training Society, providing an electronic and printed copy to the ITS Advisor, within one week of meeting. Become knowledgeable about the ITS By-Laws, campus resources and their locations, and college-wide policies. Serve as a good resource for the student body by remaining knowledgeable ITS Events Actively participate in the establishment of ITS goals and in the planning and implementing of plans in support of the goals. Be prepared to assist the college/SLIP as an official college representative when called upon to do so. Coordinate ITS elections and petitions.
Secretary First Year
Job Qualifications: Must be a currently enrolled student at GPC Must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 Must have accumulated 6 credit hours at GPC

Member at Large First Year

Specific Duties for First Year Member at Large Serve as Co-Chair Person for the Program Committee
Historian (can be a First Year or a Second Year)

Be prepared to assist the college/SLIP as an official college representative when called upon to do so. Promote all ITS Events Coordinate at least one small program each semester. (awareness event, workshop, or campus activity)
Specific Duties for Second Year Member at Large It shall be the duty of the Historian to document events of the Club and to be responsible for the safe storage of historical documentation
Section 2. Voting: At the regular meeting held in the fall of each year, members shall make nominations from the floor to create a slate for officer elections.
Section 3. The officers shall be elected by (ballot, voice or show of hands) to serve for one academic year or until their successors are elected, and their term of office shall begin at the close of the meeting at which they are elected.
Section 4. Any general member may recommend the removal of a club officer to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors shall hold a meeting at which the officer in question shall be heard. If approved, the recommendation shall be presented to the club and voted on by 2/3 vote of the quorum. In the event any officer should be re-moved from office, the secretary shall notify the officer in writing.
Section 5.
No member shall hold more than one office at a time.
ARTICLE V
Section 1. The officers of the Interpreter Training Society shall constitute the Executive Board.
Section 2. The Executive Board shall have general supervision of the affairs of the organization between its business meetings, fix the hour and place of meetings, make recommendations to the organization, and shall perform such other duties as specified in these bylaws. The Board shall be subjected to orders of the organization, and none of its act shall conflict with action taken by the organization.
Section 3. Unless otherwise ordered by the Board, there will be regular monthly meetings from September to April inclusive. Special meetings of the Board may be called by the President and shall be called upon the written request of three member of the Board.
ARTICLE VI
Section 2. The regular meeting on the last week in April shall be known as the annual meeting and shall be for the purpose receiving reports of officers and committees, and for any other business that may arise.
Section 3. The elections meeting shall be the Second meeting in the fall of each year and shall be for the purpose of electing officers, receiving reports of officers and committees, and for any other business that may arise.
Section 4. Special meetings may be called by the President or by the Executive Board and shall be called by a written request to the Advisor. The purpose of the meetings shall be stated in the call. Except in cases of emergency, at least three days notice shall be given.
Section 5. A 51% of members present at a meeting shall constitute a quorum.
ARTICLE VII Order of Business
Section 1. The order of business for regular meetings of Academic Affairs Advisory Council shall be as follows: A. Call to order B. Minutes of the last meeting C. Committee Reports D. Old business E. New business, including presentation of proposals F. Other business G. Announcements and information H. Adjournment
ARTICLE VIII
1. Pinning Ceremony committee; 2. Program committee; and 3. Mentorship committee; and 4. Fund Raising committee.
Standing rules Section 1. At the beginning of his/her term of office, each member of the Executive Board shall be given a copy of these By-Laws and shall be responsible for making a thorough study of them.
Section 2. A copy of these By-Laws shall be made available to any member of ITS upon request.
Section 3. The new and retiring members of the Executive Board shall be present at the final Executive Board meeting of the school year to initiate the transfer of all records, books, funds, and other materials pertaining to the organization.
ARTICLE X
Section 1. The
rules contained in the current edition of Robert’s Rules of Order Newly
Revised shall govern the Interpreter Training Society in all cases to which
they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with these bylaws
and any special rules of order the organization may adopt.
ARTICLE XI
Section 1. Amendments to these bylaws shall be adopted by two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members present at any regular meeting held one week or more after a regular meeting at which the proposed amendment or amendments were read, or after giving written notice thereof to each member one week prior to the action on such amendment or amendments. Section 2. These bylaws and all amendments or additions thereto shall not become effective until approved by the Organization’s Advisor. |
