The College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) awards certification to tutoring center programs that train tutors according to International Tutor Training Program Certification standards. Centers must seek certification before they can certify tutors who work and complete training in their programs. All Georgia Perimeter College Learning and Tutoring Center (LTC) locations are CRLA certified.
CRLA certification requirements for Level 1 tutor certification at GPC include:
- 10 hours of GPC LTC training, of which at least 6 hours must be face-to-face through staff development training or supervisor/mentor-led training conferences, and the remainder may be individual study hours
- 25 hours of paid tutoring experience in the LTC
All training applied toward CRLA certification must be completed within a 12-month period and must be documented before certification is awarded. CRLA topics included in GPC "Core" training are:
Definition of tutoring and tutoring responsibilities
Basic tutoring guidelines
Basic tutoring dos and don'ts
Ethics compliance and tutor philosophy
Techniques for successfully beginning and ending a tutoring session
Active listening and paraphrasing
By earning CRLA certification, GPC's Learning and Tutoring Center has joined more than 850 certified tutoring programs in the United States and overseas. This marks a milestone in the ongoing development and improvement of our tutoring program college wide. We are proud of this accomplishment and will continue to devote ourselves to the highest possible student achievement.
