Four-Step Application/Intake Process

Please read all information carefully so as not to miss out on any important steps.

Note:  There is no online application form or process for the Gateway to College Academy.

Steps one and two:  Call (678)891-3220 or e-mail and request an application packet and make a reservation for an orientation session. Complete all application materials and return them prior to attending your orientation session appointment.

Please make sure to fill out the application form carefully and accurately and sign at the bottom of the last page. Parent/guardian signature is also required. Please note: your application will not be considered complete without the 3 required essays. Please bring your completed application with you to the orientation or you can mail to: Georgia Perimeter College, Gateway to College Academy, 555 North Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston, GA 30021.

Purpose of the Orientation

• To give you an overview of program expectations and benefits so you will know if this is the right program for you.

 • To take the API (Adult Placement Indicator) test to assess your vocabulary and reading skills.

• To do an initial review of your application materials to see how well you will benefit from the program.

Please call our information number for orientation dates, times and locations. Make arrangements to come to orientation.

You must call our information number at 678-891-3220 to reserve a place at an orientation session.

Note: You will not receive a confirmation call back. Once you call to make a reservation, we will be expecting you unless you call to cancel your appointment.

Please bring the following materials to the orientation:

 • Completed program application

You will not be able to proceed to the next step, the evaluation, without this. If you mailed the application to us, we must receive it prior to your orientation date. The essay topics and instructions are on page four of the application.

• Three written essays (see application)

• Current high school transcript/s from each school you have attended

• A signed and dated high school withdrawal form issued and signed by the school district.

This is required for all applicants under the age of 18. Home schooled students do not need this unless you are new to the school system.

• Signed Release of Information Form/Required Statement

A parent/guardian signature is required for applicants under 18.

Important: Georgia Perimeter College has parking lots designated for students, faculty, and visitors. There are two visitor lots on campus, located next to buildings “A” and “H”. Please refer to the enclosed campus map, or visit  for a campus map.

All materials must be submitted by the announced deadlines to be considered for selection.

Step three: attend a two-day evaluation session

You will be referred to an evaluation session if you meet all criteria at the orientation. You may not attend an evaluation without first attending an orientation session.

 • The purpose of the evaluation session is to give you an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to be successful in an adult learning environment. You will be asked to demonstrate your reading, writing, and math skills and your student habits in a college classroom environment.

 • Statistics have shown that students who achieve a minimum of 8.0 on the API test are likely to succeed in the Gateway to College Academy. At the end of orientation, you will meet individually with a Resource Specialist, to discuss your options and possibly schedule you for a two-day evaluation.

• The evaluation sessions will simulate college level classes, will require 100% attendance, and completion of in-class and homework assignments. Please make whatever arrangements necessary with employers, family and friends to make sure you can attend your scheduled evaluation.

• You must be on time or you will be turned away, so please make sure you allow plenty of time to find the location, park and arrive to the classroom on time. We suggest that you plan to arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early in case the classroom clock is different from your watch. If you are late or miss the evaluation you may not have the opportunity to make it up and you would not be eligible to continue the application process.

 • Reminder: GPC has special parking areas for visitors. Please refer to the enclosed campus map, and allow yourself time to locate the visitor’s parking area. Visitors parked in student, staff and faculty parking may be ticketed.

Step four: be prepared for results of the lottery

 • Be aware of the deadline dates for application materials. You must meet all required deadlines to be included in the lottery for consideration for Gateway to College.

 • The Gateway to College Academy lottery for fall 2005 semester will be held on July 14, 2005. Time and location of the lottery will be announced.

 • Letters of notification will be mailed July 25 through 29.

Fall 2005 classes start on August 22.   If you do not hear about your admission by August 1, please call! Do not wait until the first day of classes to verify your status.

We will have additional openings for spring semester (which begins in January of 2006).  Orientation sessions will be scheduled soon to process students interested in applying for spring semester.  Call 678-891-3220 in September for dates and times.
