Office of Quality Enhancement Plan: Engagement Drives GPC Education
EDGE Initiative staff provide the following services:
- Assisting faculty members in the creation of service learning / community-based research opportunities for students
- Providing faculty development opportunities via regularly planned faculty development workshops held on all campuses, brown-bag lunches, teaching circles, and round table discussions
- Providing student leadership development opportunities via the GPC Commitment to Service Scholarship and AmeriCorps program
- Offering issue education programming for faculty members and students that examines the root causes of community problems
- Facilitating reflection sessions with students when requested
- Hosting college-wide, one-day service events both on-campus and off-campus
- Conducting community partner workshops
- Developing and maintaining relationships with community-based organizations (non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, and schools)
- Assisting faculty members in the development of new partnerships with community-based organizations
- Visiting service learning / community-based research placement sites to ensure quality, meaningful placements
- Maintaining a service learning / community-based research library and resource center
- Assessing service learning / community-based research activities
- Directing students to available service learning / community-based research opportunities
- Providing recognition to faculty members and students who participate in communty-based learning activities
- Securing resources for the implementation service learning / community-based research activities
