English 0098 (Basic Composition)
This course is an introductory study of the essay, emphasizing idea generation, paragraph development, and effective sentence construction.  The course includes a one-hour-per-week laboratory component for more individualized instruction.

English 0099 (Pre-College Composition)
Prerequisite: English 0098 with a "C" or better or appropriate placement.
This is a course in the writing of essays, with particular attention given to expanding the paragraph into the essay, ordering ideas, and using transitional devices.  Emphasis is given to grammar and usage within the composition.  This course includes a one-hour-per week laboratory component for more individualized instruction.

English 1101 (English Composition I)
Prerequisite: Exit or exemption from Learning Support English, reading, and ESL requirements.  This course focuses on skills required for effective writing in a variety of contexts, with emphasis on exposition, analysis, and argumentation, and also including introductory use of a variety of research skills.  Some sections of this course are taught with computer assistance in classrooms equipped with personal computers.  Keyboarding experience is useful but not required.

English 1102 (English Composition II)
Prerequite: Eng 1101 with a "C" or better or Eng 1101H with a "C" or better.  This course develops writing skills beyond the levels of proficiency required by Eng 1101, emphasizes interpretation and evaluation, and incorporates more advanced research methods.  A research paper is required.  Some sections of this course are taught with computer assistance in classrooms equipped with personal computers.  Keyboarding experience will be useful but is not required.
