LTC Class Visit Policy.
(Updated 7/26/11)
We hope you will build Learning and Tutoring Center (LTC) visits into your instructional plan. To avoid time conflicts, all visit requests (tours, orientations and in-lab practices) must be approved; requests are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
ORIENTATIONS are designed to help students use the LTC and supplemental software programs effectively. The orientation sessions are conducted by trained LTC staff. Early orientation helps students make the best use of LTC resources. A lab orientation session is required before classes can be scheduled for in-lab practice sessions.
Orientations are 45-60 minute sessions. No in-lab practice visits may be scheduled until an orientation has been completed. Orientations will be scheduled only during the following periods:
  • Orientation Period A: (First 6 weeks of semester)
  • Orientation Period B and Exit Preparation : (First six weeks after start of second half)

Note: Special requests are possible; please call, use the online request form, or stop by to request a time. We want to make LTC use as easy as possible for you.

IN-LAB PRACTICE SESSIONS may be scheduled after an orientation session has been completed. In-lab practice sessions are designed to encourage fluency through practice and facilitate the identification and correction of error patterns. The instructor directs activities during these sessions; LTC staff facilitate session set-up and troubleshoot software usage problems. In lab practice visits may be scheduled for one hour every other week, as space is available.

LTC TOURS (15 minute walk-through lab introductions) may also be scheduled. Tours are designed to ensure that all students are familiar with the location and services of the LTC. LTC staff may also be scheduled for 10-15 minute presentations in your classroom.

EXTRA- HELP OPTIONS:

  • Extended Time Tutoring :These sessions are designed for students experiencing serious performance issues. Extended time appointments offer students scheduled 45 minute one-to-one consultations with a tutor to work on specific academic challenges. Faculty referrals are welcome, but AVAILABILITY IS LIMITED.  Please refer serious students only by using the "Extended Time Tutoring " link on this webpage.
  • Reading Skills Study Group Sessions :These sessions are designed for students enrolled in reading classes that use the Reading Plus software program as an instructional supplement, but any students interested in improving reading skills are welcome to attend. Topics and dates will be listed on the LTC workshop and event schedule. To ensure availability of material and  efficient staffing, advanced registration will be required. (Sessions with no one registered 24 hours before the scheduled date will be cancelled.)

  • Instructors MUST accompany and remain with the class.
  • Visits must be scheduled in advance, so we can provide adequate staff and ensure lab access for individual students.
  • To ensure the best use of class visit time, please bring a copy of your class roster on the first visit. When your class visits, LTC staff will sign-in your students so the entire visit can be devoted to practice.
  • Please notify us, in advance, if you need to cancel; this will allow us to honor other requests.
  • Please be on time for visits. The one hour time limit will be strictly observed to ensure that individual lab users are served. Classes arriving more than fifteen minutes after the scheduled start time may be asked to reschedule.
  • New full-time and part-time faculty members are encouraged to consult LTC staff to review lab resources.
