ART THOMPSON, born in north-eastern Pennsylvania, began his percussion studies at age ten. He began his professional career with the U.S. Army Band, after which he went on to study classical and jazz percussion at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a B.A. Additionally, he holds a M.M. in jazz studies from Georgia State University. He has been a mainstay on the professional music scene in Atlanta after relocating there in 1996. During which time he has performed and recorded with a variety of artists, including international jazz trumpeter John Faddis and Contemporary Christian recording artist John Waller. He also is the praise band director at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, GA.
In addition to being a freelance musician, Art has also stayed active as an educator. In addition to instructing at Georgia Perimeter College, he also maintains on average, thirty to thirty-five students at his private studio, has had an educational article published in Modern Drummer magazine, and has recently finished a beginning method book for drum set.
