|Course Title||Business And Professional Communication|

Organizational and professional communication is an advanced course focusing on the principles and skills to effectively manage communication in a variety of organizational contexts. Emphasis is on oral communication and the delivery of business presentations while topics such as interviewing, managing business meetings, and developing technological visual aids are explored.
|Expected Educational Results|
As a result of completing this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations that include the following:
Develop critical thinking skills through:
- Structure an organizational report to share corporate data and/or establish good will
- Construct a persuasive presentation to promote a product, service, or cause
- Organize, participate in and influence a self directed team project
- Prepare for and demonstrate successful employment interview strategies
- Use verbal and nonverbal communication successfully
Develop awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity within an organization in public, small group, and interpersonal settings.
Develop ability to analyze and evaluate the appropriateness of specific types of oral and written communication within the organizational context.

|General Education Outcomes|
I.Learners develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in the following ways:
- They develop their speaking skills through a variety of speaking activities, which include presentations, speeches, interviews, and group discussions.
- They develop their listening skills through lecture, participation in small group and class discussion, and by critiquing other students' presentations.
- They develop their reading comprehension skills by reading the text, by reading scholarly material, and by conducting research.
- They develop writing skills by preparing outlines for presentations and speeches, by writing agendas, by creating and revising professional messages, and through the critical analysis of issues.

|Assessment of Outcome Objectives|
- Preparation outlines, presentations, speeches, group projects, examinations and other assignments assigned by the instructor will be used to determine the course grade.
- The organizational report, group project, employment interview, and persuasive presentation will be used to evaluate research skills, public speaking skills, critical thinking and listening skills, and awareness of cultural diversity issues.
- Both oral and written components of effective business and professional communication will be included in the scope of activities and assignments.
Course assessment will be conducted every five years. The assessment will be a survey
designed to objectively evaluate the students' knowledge of the subject as well as their
appreciation for standard elements of the course design.
Use of Assessment Results
The results of the assessment will be reviewed by the Communication Curriculum Committee for
the purpose of recommending curriculum changes and instructional strategies. An analysis of
the results along with a plan of action for recommended changes will be developed and shared
with all speech faculty. These reports will be filed with the Chair of the Communication Curriculum
