|Course Title||Business Information Systems (Honors)|
|Prerequisite(s)||Exit or exemption from all Learning Support requirements and all ESL requirements except ENSL 0091 and acceptance into the Honors Program/College|
This course illustrates the various roles and uses of information in a business environment, both locally and globally. Technology that supports the collection, use, distribution, and analysis of an organization’s information assets are explained, demonstrated, and discovered through real business examples, short problem sets, and other methodologies. In addition, students are challenged with typical problems associated with managing and developing information systems, securing information, aligning systems with business processes, and determining competitive strategies to create a competitive advantage.
This course is BISM 2601 for honors students.
|Expected Educational Results|
As a result of completing this course, a student will be able to:
1. Recognize and explain various kinds of information technology, including hardware, software, storage devices, communications, and databases.
2. Describe common applications of information systems used in many organizations—such as supply chain management, customer relationship management, and enterprise resource planning—on a local and global scale.
3. Explain the relationship between the strategic goals of an organization and its information technology infrastructure.
4. Explain how the Internet and the World Wide Web have fundamentally changed the way organizations do business.
5. Explain the issues of managing and developing information systems.
6. Explain how information systems support business processes.
7. Describe security threats to information systems and measures to protect these information assets.
8. Describe the ethical issues surrounding the uses of information.
9. Demonstrate problem-solving and data analysis using analytical and database management tools.
10. Complete case study/project(s) utilizing modeling and analysis techniques demonstrated in course content.

|Assessment of Outcome Objectives|
The course grade will be determined by graded assignments and exams covering the course content above. At least 10%, but not more than 20%, of the course grade will be determined by hands-on computer-based analysis and problem-solving using relational database management software.
This course will be assessed at least once every two years.
USE OF ASSESSMENT FINDINGS
The BISM Course Committee will review the assessment findings and determine if any changes to the course need to be made. The BISM Course Committee Chair will provide the Dean of Business Administration with a report summarizing the committee’s findings, as well as, suggested changes and/or amendments to the course.
