The core purpose of the EDGE Initiative is to bring learning to life over the next five years for progressively more GPC students through substantially expanded engaged learning in relevant, real-world, meaningful, leading-EDGE experiences, inside and outside of the classroom.

The goals of the current SACS-COC reaffirmation process are two-fold.  First, an institution must demonstrate through its Compliance Certification report that it has processes in place to ensure that it is providing a quality educational experience.   The Compliance Certification is essentially backward-looking, focusing on what has happened at the institution since the last reaffirmation.  Second, institutions must propose a PLAN to improve some aspect of its learning outcomes during the next five years following reaffirmation of accreditation for the institution.  This plan is referred to as the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).  Each institution must propose a forward-looking plan to improve learning outcomes for its students.  The plan must be based on research and assessment of the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement at the institution.  The institution must demonstrate that it has allocated adequate budgetary resources to support the QEP.  It must also have a robust plan for assessing the learning outcomes that are to be impacted by the QEP.

Requirements for the QEP are mentioned briefly in Core Requirement 2.12 and Comprehensive Standard 3.3.2.   Institutions, however, do NOT address the QEP as part of their Compliance Certification reports.

The QEP plan is submitted to SACS four to six weeks in advance of the on-site visit by the Reaffirmation Committee.  GPC's onsite visit is scheduled for Sept. 25-27, 2012.The focus of the on-site Reaffirmation Committee will be to review the institution's Quality Enhancement Plan.  A major focus of the Reaffirmation Committee will prepare a written report evaluating the QEP and directing the institution to refine the QEP, if necessary.  The quality of the QEP will be part of the basis on which the Commission decides whether or not to reaffirm accreditation.

GPC will be expected to report on the results of its QEP as part of the Fifth-Year Interim Report, due in 2018.
