Valerie Jackson, host of WABE, FM 90.1’s “Between the Lines,” and former First Lady of Atlanta, will interview Rita Dove, a former United States Poet Laureate. The 10 a.m. program will be held at GPC’s Clarkston Campus Cole Auditorium, and it will be simulcast to other GPC campuses.
As part of the event, GPC has asked teachers at elementary schools to discuss Dove’s poem, “The First Book,” with their students. The students will then create works of visual arts, many of which will be displayed during the college’s MLK Birthday Celebration evening program. Also, Dove will discuss her latest poetry collection, “Sonata Mulattica,” (W.W. Norton & Company, 2009).
