Outstanding Nursing Alumnus 2010
First NAA President Receives Inaugural Nursing Award
In a first for the GPC Nursing Alumni Association, the new Outstanding Nursing Alumnus Award was presented to Mary Ann Traina. Traina not only graduated from GPC in 1974, she also taught in the nursing lab from 1974 through 1991 then served as Regents Test coordinator until 1995. Part of the driving force behind the founding of the Nursing Alumni Association, Traina served as the organization’s first president.
“The Nursing department stays tight as a team because of the work we do,” Traina said. “When you’re dealing with people’s lives, it adds another layer of commitment. Nursing is not just a science; it’s an art.”
Traina was surprised with the award May 4 at the Nursing Alumni Association’s Annual Dinner.
“To be honored by your peers is really amazing,” Traina said. “It’s an honor to work with all of them.”
