Thomas Brown

Thomas Brown had a clear objective when he enrolled at GPC as a part-time evening student while employed as an Atlanta fireman.

"I needed to set myself apart from the others when I took competitive promotional exams," he said. "At the college, I developed good study habits and test-taking skills."

As an added benefit, he said he developed lasting relationships with professionals from other fire departments, individuals "whom I would not have met."

Brown obtained two associate degrees, one in fire science technology and the other in advanced emergency medical technology. Not only did he earn promotions in his occupation, but he worked his way up to become sheriff of DeKalb County.

"Having two degrees placed me above the others when it came to testing and promotions," Brown said. "The college helped me learn to study and take tests, which then gave me a definite career boost."
